Proxy Server

A proxy server acts as an intermediary between a client and another server. It forwards requests on the client's behalf, often adding caching, access control, logging, or security filtering. Proxies may also mask client IP addresses to provide anonymity or enforce network policies.

Why it matters

Proxy servers improve performance, enhance security, and support organizational policies. They help control outbound and inbound traffic, reduce bandwidth usage, and provide additional layers of protection for backend services.

Examples

A corporate proxy filtering web access or a reverse proxy like NGINX routing traffic to internal services. Lessons like Reverse Proxy cover related concepts.
